Attainment Milestones are the Key Learning Objectives for pupils as they progress through the Primary School Years. In Reading, Writing and Mathematics there are 3 'STEPS' per year. The aim is that pupils at least 'achieve' the age-related expectations each academic year.

Non-Core Subject Age-Related Milestones
In the non-core subjects, pupils are measured against end of year expectations. Similar to the EYFS, pupils' attainment is measured as 'emerging', 'expected' and 'exceeding' age related expectations.

New Attainment Bands
To work alongside the Attainment Milestones in the core subjects, Symphony Primary Schools Partnership have developed a new set of Attainment Bands which show how as children progress the primary years, they make 'STEPS' towards 'ACHIEVING' end of year age-related expectations. Within each year, pupils move through C, B and A expectations (e.g. Year 2 is 2C, 2B, 2A where 2A is 'Achieved' all aspects of the Y2 descriptors). These 'GRADES' are given points which enable school leaders to analyse progress in a similar way to what happened with the older National Curriculum in Primary Schools.
